A reader reports:.... (sorry the original comment didn't publish for some reason...so I posted it here)
"Good to see a blog focused on units 1, 3, and 6! It's about time. Thanks for starting this blog. (Thanks, my pleasure....WS)
Did you hear that Dave demoted Barbara Ozgood and jim Farley? Kicked them out of their offices and installed Kevin Doyle (who?) and Bernie Flynn (what?) as personal assistant to the prez and chief of staff respectively? Gave them both a day to clear out their offices. Neither Doyle or Flynn are members, and they hold offices higher than the people who are members. Osgood is now a secretary and Farley is in the finance office. Nice"
.... I hadn't heard..... don't have a clue what's going on at NAGE HQ..... we'll have to see how it's spun in the NAGE "newsletter"
Well when you've got a tin horn dictator in charge, he answers to no one.... (WS)

That is true, I was there today!
ReplyDeleteWhy has'nt the Dept of Labor, US Attorney, Mass Attorney General or any State or Federal regulatory unit, investigated the blatant and fraudulent activity that this union and the criminal elements running it are supporting?
ReplyDeleteWell.... I don't know about any criminal elements....
ReplyDeleteThe Constitution and by-laws of NAGE, which have been approved by the "executive committee"(for their own sole benefit) and duly voted at constituional conventions, have granted abosolute, virually unbridled, power to Dave "Slobodan" Holway and his hand-picked minions (the executive committee--or whatever the hell they call themselves.)
They do as they damn well please.....
The fact that the membership have allowed this happen, through their own ignorance and apathy doesn't make it fraudulent or criminal....
To answer your rhetorical question more directly,(why no investigations?)-- no one has made a formal complaint to the DOL alleging a violation of the Labor Relations Disclsoure Act (which appears to be the only basis for any membership "rights" in unions.... more on that in another post....) .... so if you've got knowledge of a violation make the complaint.......
I'll be posting the information necessary, with links to the DOL website...
Oh, by the way, if I've got to expalin why "level 4 Reilly", NAGE's loser candidate, has not "investigated" NAGE.... you may already be beyond hope... just kidding!.... there's no such thing as a studpid question, and all that....
The best chance NAGE members ever had to rid themselves of these miscreants and losers, was when MOSES, a true democratic union, made a full tilt run at NAGE and attempted to take over.... (I believe it was Paul Donahue's noble attempt to end the "NAGE Judas Goat cycle" of leading the other unions in a race to the bottom during contract negotiations)
The doltish , ignorant NAGE sheeple (members),(except for the temporarily courageous and brilliant Unit 3!) were cowed by the fear monngering of Dave Holway...
Dave told them they would lose their optical and dental benefits if they voted for MOSES..... this was a blatant, flat out lie, and I witnessed it myself.... (interesting to note that when Holway attempts to raid another union...he makes the oposite argument)
....the ignorant, pathetic membership, ruled by fear, voted for NAGE rather than MOSES...
Unfortunately, the sad ,sad postcript to the story is that, NAGE Unit 3, to their everlasting shame, reversed themselves, crawled back on their (once again cowardly) bellies, and voted (begged!) the self serving NAGE scum to come back as their union..... awful, just awful.... a little more patience on UNit 3's part would have yielded great dividends.... too bad.
But I sense that discontent is once again on the rise..... even cows and sheep have limits to their forebearanace ......
With the power of the internet to share ideas and truth, we may yet have a democratic union....
IT'S NOT THE MEMBERS, IT'S 43 INDIVIDUALS NOT REPRESENTING THIER MEMBERS...........
ReplyDeleteLANDSLIDE Victory or same old gas?
Look at the numbers. The 43 "electees" to office controlled 22,303 member votes or 2,230 delegates’ votes going into the election (1 for each 10 members). With the rare exception the Holway slate voted in lock step, and voted for themselves, even though they were approached by other candidates.
The 43 electees represent 43 local units or less than 10% of the 450 locals in NAGE and also comprise less that a majority of all NAGE membership recently tabbed at 46,000 (hard to tell these days).
For those who believed the Executive Committee was enlarged to its current 43 members to provide for a greater democracy, it was simply a ploy to work the members and provide a perpetual lock on the electorate. Talent and tenure mean nothing to Holway’s bigger is better team.
It is interesting that neither the vote count nor any opposing candidates’ names have been posted to the NAGE website. A clear indication that the Union is afraid to even give acknowledgement to competitors let alone tell the true story of the election.
The "winning" slate garnered 2,100 delegates votes, compared to the 600+ delegate votes gathered by non slated candidates, whose candidacies were arranged last minute. If you add in the more than 14,000 absent votes, or 1,400 delegate votes the election could have been a virtual dead heat.
Only one Holway slate member addressed the convention, Michael McKenna, and actually asked for their vote, the remaining slate knew they had it in the bag, and felt it was unnecessary to offer their credentials to hold office and to "represent the membership", their arrogance is amazing.
The absence of real debate on issues, is the truest demonstration of the Holway organization’s lack of democracy and lack of vision.
Although few amendments were submitted by delegates other than Holway, a few were passed by the body. One of the constitutional amendments approved by the convention was a provision to allow "absentee ballots" and if this union survives the next election could unseat many current Holway slate members, or the entire ticket.
Another would require 30 day advanced agendas of the executive committee, and publication of their minutes, not that they are ever discussed with the membership at large.
Remember the next Convention has already started, now is the time to begin building votes and arranging a challenge. Severing or separating one of the large state, or police, or other locals, from Holway could mean a change in overall leadership, give him the boot before its too late.
Also NAGE must allow for submission of Constitutional Amendments from now until up to 30 days before the Convention of 2010, so for those bent on really changing the organization there is no time like the present.
Lastly for those who cannot wait for the next convention, I would suggest changing the organization by “referendum”, although this appears a daunting task, within the guidelines of OUR constitution, and with some assistance of a good website, a la Move-On.com it would not be so difficult to acquire the requisite number of member signature petitions to require a FULL MEMBERSHIP vote (as opposed to insider delegates) on issues of shared concern.
Although given its current self-destructiveness I doubt NAGE will be around long enough for real change I remain hopeful.
The Numbers for those who did not attend:
